The project for HSBC Bank University is located in Nansha District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province and part of the larger Pearl River Delta conurbation. The core of the building is to create ubiquitous communication and gathering spaces. The main functions of the building are: Learning/training Dining/meetings Rest/recreation The project is part of a lager masterplan currently under development consisting of 3 plots. It is the southern-most of the 3 plots and faces the open spaces of the Jiaomenjiao river surrounds to the south. The Nansha Stadium is located to the east of the site and the remainder of the plots are being developed for mixed use retail and commercial functions.
The Building comprises a mix of teaching and learning spaces, accommodation for residents, as well as services, an auditorium and external spaces. Architecturally the project is comprised of a mid-rise tower of 12 floors, mostly for accommodation and a 4 floor podium consisting of communal facilities and various teaching rooms.

The ground plane around the project has then been subdivided into a rectangular grid of sample points and each sample point has been tested for 2 conditions:
1 | Can it physically see the sign, taking into account all physical obstacles ?
2 | Is it within the visibility distance from the signage, taking into account the size of the signage?
3 | Is it within the human field of view, 124° horizontally and 50° vertically.
omparing the amount of sample points that meet the above conditions, to all points sampled allows us to provide a quantitative evaluation of the visibility of the signage can objectively compare different placement and sizing options.
