IWM Duxford is Europe’s largest air museum. This is the RAF airfield where Spitfires first flew. The site hosts a number of large hangars containing historic aircraft including a Concorde, Spitfire, Vulcan, Lancaster, B17, Predator, Blackbird and many more. These hangars are now home to thematic exhibitions covering the UK's wartime history.
Spaceagency's commission included wayfinding and environmental graphic design across the museum incorporating historic photography. Considering the vast scale of the Duxford Airfield site, our approach was to feature larger than life photos of wartime personages and supergraphic wayfinding manifestations. A bespoke illustration was created to identify each exhibition, based on the most iconic elements of the period, inspired by airfield markings and military graphics.
