Our wayfinding signage strategy and design for the whole of the public realm at Expo 2020 is now open to the public. After 7 years on the project, we are very proud to be part of the first World Expo in the MENA region which opened on October 1st, 2021 to a very strong public reception. Our strategy leads visitors seamlessly around the pavilions and ultimately through the Expo. The wayfinding and signage system provides maps, directions and navigational assistance to help visitors understand the site and find their way around.
The concept behind Spaceagency’s signage design is derived from the Emirati craft of ‘Al Sadu’ weaving. Conceived as textile ribbons woven in-between vertical ropes, the resulting signage is an intriguing design that merges middle-eastern traditions and western design philosophy. Spaceagency developed a distinct suite of signage manifestations that incorporate artisanal craftsmanship, through a unique collaboration with Emirati weavers, with refined modern design. Through internal backlighting, two distinct personalities, during the day and during the hours of darkness, come to life.
