Join us on June 20th for a fun and creative "Pictogram Street of the Future" workshop, where we'll reimagine the possibilities of urban streets together!
Taking inspiration from Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown's influential work "Learning from Las Vegas" (1972), Spaceageny proposes a radical reimagining of urban streets, shifting from a landscape of 'decorated sheds' to a collection of 'ducks.'
This approach involves designing architectural interventions and urban elements that inherently communicate their function and purpose, thereby eliminating the need for traditional wayshowing. Recognizing that the urban form serves as the primary and most intuitive means for people to navigate their surroundings, the transformation of each building into an iconic landmark representing its use could eliminate the need for extra layers of information, by seamlessly integrating it directly into the urban fabric.
Participants can contribute to Spaceagency’s street model by selecting a land use from the master plan and envisioning buildings that clearly convey their function without wayfinding signage. Plasticine models of these buildings using provided materials will be created.
